Modern Data Stack Community

Overview

In 2021, I joined Modern Data Stack to build its community from scratch. It was my first ever zero-to-one project—and it gave me a front-row seat to how powerful community-led growth can be. The goal: create a space where data professionals could learn, share, and connect through content, events, and conversation.

What I Did

  1. Conceptualized and launched the Modern Data Show podcast—hosted 20+ global data leaders

  2. Built the newsletter program from 0 to 5,000+ subscribers with an avg. 45% open rate

  3. Grew an active Slack community with 1,000+ members—all organically

  4. Created systems to source, schedule, publish, and repurpose podcast + newsletter content

  5. Hosted our first in-person international event in London with 75%+ attendance

  6. Worked on audience research, SEO basics, and simple growth hacks to build initial traction

  7. Built community credibility through partnerships, shoutouts, and consistent engagement

Results

  1. 15,000+ listens on the Modern Data Show

  2. 5,000+ newsletter subscribers with 45% average open rate

  3. 1,000+ community members

  4. First global event with 75%+ show-up rate

  5. Created a scalable foundation for the brand’s community-led GTM engine
